Application Procedure for a Scholarship Fund Grant

Eligibility:

The applicant must be a member or a relative (immediate family such as parent, grandparent, brother, sister) of a member of the St. David's Society of Utica, New York, Inc. for the past two years.

Description of Award Criterion for Selection:

  1. The Society expects to make up to three awards each year from the interest income generated from the Educational Trust Fund.
  2. Awards will be made in consideration of post secondary education or specialized secondary education. There will be no more than four (4) yearly awards made to any one student.
  3. Selection of individuals for scholarships will be based on:
    • Individual or family involvement in St. David's Society.
    • Personal experiences such as work, school activities, and community involvement.
    • Academic performance.
    • Scholastic aptitude.
    • Awareness and appreciation for Welsh heritage.
    • Recommendation of applicant by school counselor, teacher, or other professional.
  4. Preference will be given to one (1) scholarship per family per year.
  5. All application information must be received by June 1.

Instructions:

  1. Complete the two-page Scholarship Application form using MS Word. Save the completed document on your computer, and print a copy to be mailed as described in step 4 below. Incomplete forms will not be considered. Ineligible applicants will not be considered.
  2. Attach the following to your application :
    • Your grade transcript for the most recently attended institution.
    • Copy of your SAT, ACT, GRE or other standardized test scores.
    • An essay written by you of not less than 250 words and no more than 500 words on the subject, "In what way has my Welsh heritage influenced my life?"
  3. Request that a high school or college counselor, advisor, instructor or supervisor complete and return directly the Applicant Appraisal Form, before June 1.
  4. Return before June 1, the completed application form and requested supporting documentation to: Mr. Leonard Pugh, 122 Cider Street, Oriskany, NY 13424.
